So here I am in the Winnipeg Airport waiting for my flight to Toronto, and everything just seems surreal. I just had my last weekend in the Peg, and it was a great one. It’s amazing how situations like these remind you of the great family and friends one has and how much they mean to you. Makes it so much harder to leave but at the same time I’m always just an email or skype call away, and I know I’ll have visitors wherever I end up.
Just to provide a quick recap for anyone who isn’t completely aware of my situation...I have resigned from my accounting job to pursue my dreams of travelling the world. I like to think that I’m not trying to “escape” from anything here in Winnipeg. I have the best family a guy could ask for, and some top notch friends. I didn’t mind my job, and the people I worked with were second to none (they’re reading this blog so I had to say that….just kidding!) In short, I am and have always been a happy guy (at least once I’ve had my coffee). It was more an issue of me needing to break out of my routine, whatever that cliché means, and add some new spice to my life. I figure I’m fortunate to be in a position where it is even possible or responsible to take on an adventure of this magnitude, so if I really want to do it in this lifetime, I had better get at it, while I still have the relative freedom that is inherent for a late-20-something-guy like me with no family and a little money saved up.
But in doing all this, I still wasn’t able to completely throw caution to the wind (I am/was an accountant afterall), and I do have a couple very strong opportunities to get into some international development work. I will just continue to wait patiently (ie. Travel the world and have a blast) until they find me a placement.
In the meantime, I’ll be heading off to Germany on Wednesday for a couple weeks. Then I’m off to Japan, via a one-way ticket from Toronto, and I have no set itinerary after that.
The adventure begins….

Hey Jefferson. I was pretty sad to see you go. I am really going to miss our badminton games at the Wellness. It's hard to believe it has been almost two years. Maybe now I will find a new playing partner; perhaps someone I can actually beat. I hear there are a few seniors with various ailments that play. I think I will lay down the challenge to one of them.
ReplyDeleteI am sure that you will have a great time traveling the world. Be sure to be safe. Stay coherent as much as possible, although I realize that is asking a lot. I will be working on my game every minute of every day that you are gone. As soon as you get back to Winnipeg I fully expect to play. By the way, where the hell is my racquet?
Peace brother. I am going to miss you.
Hey Jeff...hope you're having a great time and enjoying TO for now. Safe trip to Germany...MA
ReplyDeleteOkay. It has been well over a week and thus far I don't see much adventure going on. You may as well have just stayed here in Winnipeg and gone to Burger King everyday. Now that's excitement.
ReplyDeletePut some pics up here. It was a pain in the ass signing up for this thing...I want to see some pics. :)
I don't go for that mushy suff, you are dead to me. I hope you are having a great time.
